history; When he was a child, Atobe always knew he could read what others were feeling (being able to 'see' it in the forms of waves) but did not think much of it. Instead he used this power to taunt others – sometimes even snapping at them, telling them to 'stop feeling'. Atobe did not realize that what he was able to do wasn't normal.

At the age of eight (around the time he met Tezuka) his personal servant finally took him aside to ask him how exactly Atobe knew what other people were feeling. When Atobe explained it to him, the servant took the young boy straight to the best doctor Japan could afford, only to learn that physically nothing was wrong with the eight-year-old. Atobe's servant instructed him to never talk about it to anyone, especially his parents; his abilities were abnormal.

Life went by; Atobe was able to push his power to the back of his mind, managing to live with the headaches and the exhaustion the gift caused. Depressed as his power made him, his ability gave him and amazing power to sing, as he was able to clearly convey the feelings across to the audience. Also, it brought him Tezuka. He had found out how confused Tezuka was about his feelings for Atobe and quickly made the boy his lover. He ended the relationship a few months before Tezuka left for Ryuhana.

Eventually, the powers became harder to ignore and as Atobe found himself frequently so tired that he was unable to sing. Annoyed at his inability to do much of anything, Atobe began to search for something that could help him harness his power. Luckily, it was not too long before the Brotherhood found him. Gladly taking the opportunity to finally have the power fit in with his life rather than having it disturb his life, (and certainly the idea that the Brotherhood was 'superior' didn’t make the decision harder), Atobe joined.

powers; Atobe's power is that of empathy, allowing him to read the emotions of other people at the current moment. He can 'feel' or 'see' the emotion the person is feeling as a wave of energy that flows into him. Generally this causes Atobe to get lost under the wave to emotions that bombard him, losing track of his own (somewhat like Schuldig from Weiss Kruez, but with feelings instead of thoughts).

When (and if) Atobe is able to master his gift, he will be able clearly read the emotions of a person to the point where he can assume what the person is thinking, often to the point that people believe he also has telepathy. He will be able to block out feelings and focus on a single person (this is more a matter of mental shields which he will also have to master, most likely before he works on being able to clearly reading emotions). He will also be able to change the person's emotion (manipulate if you will).
